Research on Forced Migration in the Gaza Strip

As part of my Geographies of Migration class, this research investigates the impact of the Israeli blockade on forced migration in the Gaza Strip. It examines how the blockade's economic and security consequences drive Palestinians to migrate within Gaza and across borders, focusing on the 2023 Israel-Hamas conflict. The study highlights the role of political sovereignty in shaping migration routes and the challenges faced by displaced individuals.

Research on Community-Based Conservation

For my GEOG 310: Environment and Sustainability class, I examined the effectiveness of community-based conservation (CBC) compared to protectionist models. I argued that CBC better supports Indigenous communities by involving them in conservation efforts, providing both ecological and economic benefits. Through case studies like the Lacandon Community Forest and the Maya Biosphere Reserve, I demonstrated how CBC can enhance biodiversity protection while empowering local communities.

False Creek: the Sea2City Design Challenge

As part of the Sea2City Design Challenge, I collaborated with CityStudio and the City of Vancouver on their coastal adaptation plan for False Creek. This project focused on evaluating the impact of sea level rise on vulnerable communities. I conducted site visits, reviewed design proposals, and critiqued the plans, particularly concerning unsheltered cyclists who were overlooked in the design.

Urban Warfare: The Case of Gaza’s Infrastructure

In a research project focused on urban politics and conflict, I authored a report titled "Urban Warfare: The Case of Gaza’s Infrastructure," which examines the systematic destruction of civilian infrastructure in Gaza, referred to as urbicide. Through this analysis, I investigated how Israeli tactics, including airstrikes and blockades, have targeted water, sanitation, housing, and electricity systems, creating a humanitarian crisis while undermining Palestinian urban resilience.

In-person Campus Tour Presentation

Delivered pre-tour presentations to prospective students and their families before the walking tour of our Vancouver campus. The presentations focused on three key themes—learning, location, and community—highlighting the those aspects of UBC.

Your Roof, Your Rights: Working Towards Student Housing Justice

This event provided a space for students from diverse backgrounds to share their experiences, insights, and resources regarding housing justice for students. Event included a trivia activity, small group discussions, and networking opportunities with the Social Justice Centre and Migrant Students United at UBC.

Seminar Coordinator

As a seminar coordinator for GEOG 422, Palestine in the World Seminar, I was responsible for the proposal, planning, and coordination of an upper-year undergraduate seminar on the geography of Palestine. This role involved organizing course materials, managing communication between faculty and students, and supporting the scheduling and logistics of guest speakers and seminar discussions. I collaborated closely with the instructor and another student to ensure that the seminar ran smoothly.

In my essay, Neoliberal Globalization Meets Settler Colonialism: The Case of the Jerusalem Light Rail, I analyze the role of the Jerusalem Light Rail (JLR) as a mechanism of Israeli settler colonialism in East Jerusalem. The paper investigates how the JLR serves as a tool for territorial control, connecting Israeli settlements while displacing Palestinian communities and reinforcing Israel’s authority over East Jerusalem.

Urban Warfare: The Case of Gaza’s Infrastructure.

This report examines urbicide, the ongoing deliberate attacks on civilian infrastructure in the Gaza Strip by the Israeli authorities.

What is Fast Fashion?

A research initative that led to the creation of an educational resource. The resource provides an introduction to the fast fashion industry and the environmental and social injustices cost of having a reliance on such an unjust and unsustainable system.

U.S Info Days Event

Prospective students from the US and their families joined us this fall to discover the University of British Columbia. Attendees toured our stunning Vancouver campus, engaged with current students and advisors, and learned about undergraduate programs, admissions, scholarships, and student life. The event featured a guided campus tour, interactive panel discussions, and opportunities to connect with other US-based prospective students.

Workshop on Intergenerational Connectivity and Community Building

This workshop, titiled "Youth Mental Health Innovation Toolkit Creation", aimed to empower youth to address mental health challenges associated with technology use. This collaborative event, hosted by CCEL, combined brainstorming, creative tool creation, and project ideation to kickstart actionable initiatives addressing youth mental health concerns in the digital age.

Organized and led an Ambassador Adventure to UBC’s Decolonization Tour at the Belkin Gallery, exploring Indigenous art and the themes of settler colonialism, reconciliation, and decolonization.

Your Roof, Your Rights: Working Towards Housing Justice for Students

Organized a workshop under the UBC Centre for Community Engaged Learning in collaboration with the Social Justice Centre and Vancouver Tenants Union. Over 40 participants engaged in discussions on housing security, availability, and affordability, featuring a presentation, Q&A, and reflection session to foster awareness and community-building around housing justice.
