As a UBC Campus Tours Pre-Tour Presenter, I delivered engaging and informative sessions to prospective students and their families before the walking portion of their visit to our Vancouver campus. These presentations provided an overview of the UBC experience, structured around three central themes: learning, location, and community.
The sessions began with an introduction where I shared my background and field of study, followed by a warm welcome and an acknowledgment of the Musqueam people's traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory where UBC is situated. I then introduced the themes of the presentation and played a short video showcasing UBC’s vibrant academic and campus life.
Key Highlights of the Presentation:
- Learning: I emphasized UBC’s global academic excellence, cutting-edge research opportunities, and interdisciplinary programs, including examples of student innovation such as the Supermileage Car project and groundbreaking undergraduate research.
- Location: I highlighted UBC’s unique setting, surrounded by nature, and its two campus locations in Vancouver and Kelowna, each offering distinct opportunities for exploration and engagement.
- Community: I spoke about UBC's diverse and inclusive culture, long-standing traditions like Storm the Wall and the Day of the Longboat, and the many ways students can create a meaningful university experience tailored to their interests.
Through this role as a UBC Campus Tours Pre-Tour Presenter, I gained valuable insights into effective communication, public speaking, and audience engagement. By tailoring presentations to address the diverse interests and needs of prospective students and their families, I enhanced my ability to present complex information clearly and compellingly.
Acheivements:
1. Shared my personalized learning journey and UBC experiences with tour participants, helping them receive hands-on information and a clearer understanding of what UBC has to offer.
2. Provided housekeeping notes and tour guidelines to over 200 participants, ensuring a smooth and informative experience.
